About Us

For 45 years our mission has been to create and maintain imaginative and sustainable landscapes in Tompkins County, NY. This includes complete site development and garden creation for your home and for our community green spaces. To support this mission we operate the following divisions:

Garden Center

We are your complete source for all garden plants, gifts, and horticultural materials.  We are also a specialist nursery that stocks an extensive list of deer-resistant and native plants.  We have a huge selection of shade, flowering, and evergreen trees grown at our own farm on Bundy Road in the Town of Ithaca.  Our knowledgeable staff are eager to help you select the right plant for the right site.  Come stroll through our delightfully diverse selection at our pastoral location high above Cayuga Lake.

Residential Design-Build

Whether you are remodeling your entire landscape or simply adding a new garden feature, we are willing to help. Our landscape planting and construction crews have extensive experience creating retaining walls, walkways, stairways, fences, gates, gardens, landscape lighting, and more.

Our team of estimators are talented garden designers, with many holding degrees in Landscape Architecture. We do not simply decorate your house, but instead, create true environments. Entry courtyards, backyard rooms, rain gardens, groves, and meadows are just a few of the potential features we can create for you.  Please call to meet one of our estimators: David Fernandez, Christian Gruber, or James Pagano.

Residential Grounds Maintenance

You can leave all of your garden maintenance in our hands.  Our horticulture team will mow and trim your lawn or meadow, care for your garden beds and plants, scout for insects and diseases, and protect your plantings from the ravages of deer and rodents.  We leave your property neat and tidy after every visit.  Our most popular horticultural service plan is five seasonal visits:  spring cleanup, mulching and annual planting, summer pruning and bed maintenance, fall garden cleanup, and winter protection.  Click here for a full list of services.

Commercial and Civic

We have an extensive resume of successfully completed projects with some of the top General Contractors in the Northeast.  Completed projects at Cornell University include:  Milstein Hall, Weill Hall, Bailey Plaza, Tiger Glen Garden, Cornell Botanic Gardens Welcome Center, and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.  Other community projects over the years have included the entire Tompkins County Airport and many of the new landscapes at the Cayuga Medical Center.

We have considerable experience with large tree moving, green roof installation, rain gardens, sports turf fields, timber stairways and walls, segmented block retaining walls, brick pavers, stone work, and carpentry work. View our commercial portfolio for more examples.

Farm and Nursery

We grow almost all the trees we sell at our 25-acre Bundy Road farm on Ithaca’s West Hill.  Some trees include: Crabapples, Maples, Pines, Oaks, Willows, and many more. Our trees are naturally acclimated to growing conditions here in Tompkins County and are transplanted with minimal stress to the tree.  In addition, we operate a separate 90-acre farm in Enfield which produces hay and sustainable forest products, such as natural Black Locust fence posts, riven Maple picket fencing, cleft Oak gates, woven wood hurdles and more.

McKissick Farms

Located in a bucolic setting only 10 minutes north of Cayuga Landscape Company, here you will find annuals, organic herbs and veggies, perennials, grasses, and shrubs. There is also a beautiful 5-acre apple orchard and pond. Visit their website for more information.

“We LOVE the gardens.  What a tremendous difference they have made in the appearance of the house and yard!  People keep stopping to tell us how much they admire the garden.  Thank you very much."
"Once again your team has done a great job!  Doug: we love the stone work and Chris, we love the design."
“The Kappa Delta yard looks great!! Arrivals begin soon and everyone will be so pleased with the planting and color it provides to the front of the house. Thanks.”

Green Initiatives

Cayuga Landscape Company embraces the tenets of sustainability: we buy local plants and materials whenever possible, and thereby reduce fossil fuel usage and help support our local economy.  We recycle nursery pots, plastic bottles, paper and cardboard.  We compost all organic garden material.

Community Outreach

Cayuga Landscape Company is proud to support our community with both financial and in-kind contributions.  We donated many of the plantings at the Sciencenter of Ithaca, the Ithaca Children's Garden, the Cornell Africana Memorial, the Racker Center, and many parks and schools. We believe that investing in our community greenspaces benefits everyone.

We can also donate a tree for your elementary school or park for Arbor Day. Our knowledgeable horticulturalists and landscapers can help select a tree best suited to the site.
